6TH Grade Transition Camp
Program designed for students entering grade 6 in September 2018.

This course is designed for all students who want a 'jump start' on the Northley experience. Students will participate in team-building activities and meet other incoming sixth graders from all four elementary schools before the year begins. Master opening a locker, finding your way around, and learn more about what Northley Middle School has to offer. Build confidence in yourself and develop new friendship skills while participating in fun activities!

American Red Cross - BABYSITTER TRAINING
Program designed for students who will be 11 - 17 years old at the beginning of the class in July 2018.

Students will learn skills and responsibilities relevant to becoming a babysitter. Training includes infant and child supervision, feeding, diapering, staying safe, and how best to respond to emergencies. Participants will practice skills that require them to be on the floor; therefore, dress comfortably and appropriately. Student will receive a babysitter safety kit! THIS COURSE RUNS ONE EXTENDED DAY.

Animal Anatomy
 Program designed for students entering grades 5 - 8 in September 2018.

This course is designed for students who have an interest in the medical field (doctors, nurses, veterinarians, etc.). Students will be able to learn proper dissection techniques, examine the internal anatomy of several different organisms, and learn the proper terms for anatomical positions. Some of the organisms may include dogfish shark, starfish, crayfish, and rat.

Students will explore the history and methods of animation and create their own animations using a variety of techniques, ranging from hand-drawn to stop-motion.

Healthy Heart + Honest Mind = Happy Life!
 Program designed for students entering grades 3 – 5 in September 2018.
Having a healthy heart and honest mind are just two components of a happy lifestyle. In this half-day camp, students will delve into ways to implement physical activity into their daily lives. Students will be active participants in learning yoga, kickboxing, Zumba, and more! Students will concoct healthy snacks to promote nutrition and the importance of a well-balanced diet. Mindfulness and character development activities will help students practice coping strategies, build confidence, and feel empowered while working collaboratively with peers.
Note: Registration for this course assumes parental consent for students to work with and consume food during class. Students with food allergies must receive registration approval from instructor prior to enrollment.

Have you ever wanted to live like your favorite athletes? Do you wonder how they exercise, what they eat, or how to play their sports? This summer join in on the fun! Learn how to eat right, exercise well, and play all your favorite sports (including soccer, baseball, kickboxing, basketball, running, etc.). Each day we will focus on nutrition as well as a new sport. Set yourself up for a summer of fun, fitness, and healthy living!

How to Write a Children's Book
 Program designed for students entering grades 1-5 in September 2018.

Become an author and publisher! Students will learn to write and illustrate a hardcover children’s book during this fun and enriching summer workshop. Students will brainstorm ideas and learn the process of publishing a book from idea to finished product. Books will be shared during an authors’ party on the final day. THIS COURSE RUNS TWO WEEKS.

Liberation of 1945: An Introduction to the Holocau
 Program designed for students entering grades 9 - 12 in September 2018.

World War II claimed over 60 million lives. Almost one-third of those deaths were intentionally generated by Germany's Nazi regime. The Nazis systematically took the lives of millions of German 'undesirables,' including over six million Jews. This course will take a closer look at this persecution beginning with the rise of Nazism in the 1920s, through the passing of the Nuremburg Laws in the 1930s, to the genocide of World War II.

This course will introduce the Holocaust to any interested high school student through readings, activities, and first person testimonials from several expert sources. Days will be divided into segments based on the film 'The Path to Nazi Genocide' (produced by USHMM). Mornings will be activity based; afternoons will be spent viewing films and/or documentaries about the Holocaust.

Mixed Media and the Art of Nature
Program designed for students entering grades 5 - 10 in September 2018.

Using the natural world around us as our inspiration, we will explore different media to practice art skills while creating works about animals, plants, flowers, and more! We will use a mixed bag of artistic media, including pen and ink, scratchboard, pastels, and paint. Build your portfolio or create art just for its own sake!

This full day course will give students ideas for days and help develop strong 2D design skills while creating bright, impactful projects!

SOUNDS OF SUMMER YOUTH BAND CAMP
Program designed for students entering grades 5 - 9 in September 2018. Students must have at least one year of school band experience.

This course is open to students who have played their instruments for at least one year in school band. The program will include small group instruction and small ensemble performance, as well as a combined band ensemble. This year's camp is 'From Stage to Screen,' and will be themed with music written for or used in our favorite movies, TV shows, musicals, and operas.
The last evening will be open to all students' family members who have an instrument and wish to sit in with students.

Art is a great way to express yourself, and also to relax and be mindful. In 'The Art of Chilling Out' we will work with techniques including Zentangles, doodles, and mandalas to create beautiful works of art while also learning positive ways to stay calm, focused, and content in a busy, noisy world.

Theater Workshop

What Makes Music, Music!
Program designed for students entering grades 9 - 12 in September 2018.

Want to know the ins-and-outs of music, have a deeper understanding of your performance, or play music in college or as an adult? This course is for you! Students will learn basic music theory and classical/pop music history that will prepare them for the next level. Students will learn basic aural theory skills, understand basic harmony, encounter a classical/jazz/hip-hop music history overview, and prepare for musical life after high school. Future music majors will use this course as an intro to college music while anyone who takes it will feel more connected to music at a higher level. Students should be able to read music and will create a short presentation on a musical topic.
